03 · Investor protection

Your rights as an investor

  • Receive complete information about products, services, charges and risks before transacting.
  • Obtain copies of account-opening documents, policies, contract notes and statements.
  • Expect fair treatment, privacy of personal information and secure handling of assets.
  • Receive funds and securities within applicable settlement timelines.
  • Raise a grievance and receive a response within the prescribed period.
  • Escalate an unresolved grievance to the exchange, depository, SEBI SCORES or SMART ODR, as applicable.

05 · Invest safely

Do's & don'ts for investors

Do

  • Deal only with SEBI-registered intermediaries and verify credentials.
  • Read forms, tariffs, policies and risk disclosures before signing.
  • Keep mobile, email, bank and nomination details updated.
  • Review contract notes, statements and exchange messages promptly.
  • Pay only through approved banking channels in the entity's name.
  • Report discrepancies or unauthorised activity without delay.

Don't

  • Do not share passwords, OTPs, TPINs or login credentials.
  • Do not sign blank forms or accept assured-return promises.
  • Do not transfer funds to personal accounts or unverified UPI IDs.
  • Do not ignore exchange alerts, contract notes or statements.
  • Do not rely on tips from unregistered persons or groups.
  • Do not delay escalation when a complaint remains unresolved.
